Intro to Winter Biking 2025

SHIFT NWT's Introduction to Winter Cycling event on October 19, 2025 was a ton of fun! Becca Denley set the agenda and did the intro, then we had a nice panel discussion led by Dwayne Wohlgemuth, a good winter bike maintenance presentation and studded tire install demo by Mike from Overlander Sports, plenty of opportunities to ask questions, and lots of snack! Key take-aways:

1. You don't need any special equipment other than studded tires, and the care and maintenance is not complicated.
2. You're more likely to be too warm than too cold, dress light but windproof.
3. When you think about having to plug in a vehicle, warm it up, scrape the windshield, find parking, etc, biking is often way less hassle than driving.
4. . It feels great to be active, even in winter!
